In some cases newer players may not care for this, but I feel it gives the games more character.

However, realize the further you go back in the series the older the graphics and design become. In my personal opinion after having played many of the games (#1-24) there are some you can skip and others that I strongly recommend. And actually the Nancy Drew games were arguably in their prime roughly around games #7-14. Some of the original games early on in the Nancy Drew series are the best in my opinion.
Probably the best question to ask yourself when considering the older Nancy Drew games is what games have you played, and what did you enjoy? Really the choice is up to you.
